Plastic Surgeons are physicians practicing the medical art and science of changing the shape of the human form using 'surgical' methods (cutting and stitching).

Present day plastic surgery was transformed during and after the Second World War when surgeons became skilled in reconstructive plastic surgery while treating disfiguring war wounds. The skills learned treating wounded war vets were then used to treat cosmetic conditions.

Contemporary Plastic Surgeons are most commonly thought of as practicing Cosmetic Surgery, although Cosmetic Surgery is actually a part of the greater discipline of Plastic Surgery. Cosmetic Surgery is changing as more and more nonsurgical cosmetic medical treatments appear. Most Plastic Surgeons now offer nonsurgical cosmetic medical treatments (Botox, laser treatments, IPL) in addition to surgical treatments like face lifts, breast augmentation and liposuction.

On cosmetic medical blogs and plastic surgeon forums, discussions of cosmetic medicine, nonsurgical treatments and the business of retail cosmetic medicine are most common.

Many Plastic Surgeons now have blogs for themselves and their clinic to market to potential and existing patients. Celebrity blogs often deal with plastic surgery.
