plastic surgeon

A Plastic Surgeon is a physician (MD or DO in the US) that deals with the correction or restoration of form and function and includes a variety of specializations including craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, burn surgery, microsurgery, and reconstructive surgery. The word "plastic" derives from the Greek plastikos meaning to mold or to shape.

Plastic Surgery is often thought to be synonymous with Cosmetic Surgery, although although technically Cosmetic Surgery is a subset of Plastic Surgery. Cosmetic Plastic Surgeons commonly offer additional non-surgical treatments like Botox, IPL or laser treatments in addition to breast augmentation, face lifts and liposuction.

Plastic surgeons have embraced blogging more readily than some other medical specialties because of the marketing aspects that blogs provide for cosmetic treatments. Where other medical blogs may deal with life as a physician, plastic surgeon blogs very often have a noticeable marketing bent and discuss patient benefits and treatment options that the plastic surgeon specializes in. These blogs rarely discuss the potential risks or possible complications of surgeries since litigation is extremely high.

Plastic Surgeon blogs are sometimes affiliated with academia and research.
