The term Point of Sale refers to the point where a transaction takes place and to the software that used to complete it. A real world example of this is a cash register at a supermarket checkout desk.

There is a huge range of Point of Sale software available for all areas of retail and business that run on common platforms such as Windows.

Point of Sale software or "POS" software that is used on the internet is known as web-based Point of Sale software. Web based POS is a low cost option and can be run on any computer that has an internet connection and uses a supported browser. The main reasons for using Point of Sale software includes reducing cost, improving customer service and faster response times.
