Why Not Eat an Eclair? · David Runciman: Why Vote?

    http://www.lrb.co.uk/ v30/ n19/ runc01_.html

Why would anyone vote for Barack Obama? I'll be in CT this weekend at the Association for Political Theory meeting at Wesleyan. I'm presenting some newish work, related to a developing project on drive. Here's a draft of the paper. Comments are welcome. Please don't cite it without checking with me; it's still a work in progress.

    Left Behind

Ingrid’s post below (plus a couple of other events) prompted me to look for G.A. Cohen’s new book: Rescuing Justice and Equality (UK) is apparently already out in the US despite being published on November 1st.

    Saving Capitalism from the Capitalists

The final paragraph from Luigi Zingales critique of the Paulson plan reads: The decisions that will be made this weekend matter not just to the prospects of the U.S. economy in the year to come; they will shape the type of capitalism we will live in for the next fifty years.

Government Funding and the Economic Organization of Scienctific Research

    http://organizationsandmarkets.com/ 2008/ 09/ 29/ government-funding-and-the-eco…

    | Peter Klein | A prominent climate scientist, Richard Lindzen of MIT, argues that the politicization of climate science over the last decade is but a symptom of a larger, more general problem caused by government science funding: namely an emphasis on demonstrable results that satisfy the public and have “practical” implications, rather than the pursuit of scientific truth (via Sean Corrigan).
