A portfolio can refer to many things but in the world of wealth and investments it usually includes a collection of investments held by a financial institution or an individual. A portfolio many include a full range of stocks and bonds or a forex investment focused on foreign currencies.

If the stock market seems too risky, you may want to try a portfolio of real
estate holdings. But even that has risks with fluctuations in property values that can last for over a decade in a slow economy. Wall Street investors thrive on making money on both the upswings and downswings in the economy.

If you have a strong and well diversified
portfolio you may survive a bear market or heavy fluctuations without taking any losses while other investors love taking higher risks with their portfolio for faster returns on their money.
