    The Web is changing. The current Web is designed to allow computers to retrieve and deliver documents from other computers for the end user to view, read, and interpret. As anyone who has used Google’s (GOOG), Yahoo’s (YHOO) and Microsoft’s (MSFT) search engines can attest, sometimes the retrieval of desired documents and information is accurate and sometimes it is way off base.

    Microsoft has now integrated Powerset into the Live Search platform, since last month. The Redmond-based software giant is believed to have paid $100 million for Powerset’s semantic search capabilities in an attempt to improve their position in the search engine market after the failed attempt to acquire Yahoo! earlier in the year.

    Live Search: Powerset Integration Already Going Live

    Microsoft only acquired the semantic search engine Powerset a little more than a month ago, but today, the Powerset team announced the first integration of its search technology into Microsoft’s Live Search. Specifically, Live Search will now show better instant answers for queries like “San Francisco weather” and return better results based on Freebase and Wikipedia articles.

    Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) acquired Powerset for a rumored $100 million on July 1st. Since then Microsoft and Powerset have been working away to integrate search technologies into Live Search. Some of the integration projects include Freebase Answers, improved captions for Wikipedia results on Live Search, and related searches.
