PPI, a lot of times, is in reference to Payment Protection Insurance. PPI is also used when referring to Pixels Per Inch in the technology world, plus there are many other less common uses of the acronym PPI.

Payment Protection Insurance is essentially insurance that may be taken out alongside a loan, mortgage, credit card or store card to assist a borrower with meeting the repayments of a debt if they are unable to keep up repayments from loss of income.

The reasons where an individual may not be able to generate an income include becoming unemployed through no fault of their own, having an accident or becoming ill.

Under a PPI policy, a sum of money is paid out each billing month to cover payment due, in whole or in part, on debts which have PPI applied.
