president barack obama
President Barack Obama was elected the 44th President of the United States on November 4, 2008, succeeding President George Bush.
Born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961, he attended Harvard Law School where he became the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. He later became a state senator in Illinois, and went on to serve as a US Senator for the same state in 2004.
His presidency is considered historically significant for several reasons.
He is the first African American president, with an African father from Kenya and Caucasian American mother. He raised record amounts of money from small donations, mainly through the internet, on his own social media site, also leveraging Twitter, and Facebook. Because of this success, the use of social media in Obama's campaign has become a topic of study for those wishing to leverage the technology for promotional purposes, much in the way business blogging became a topic of discussion eight years ago as a result of political blogging.
