Tag details

PSD is the file suffix for a file created in the Adobe graphics program Photoshop. It stands for PhotoShop Document. A PSD file preserves the layers which allow different graphic elements such as imported jpegs or gifs, scanned photographs, or program-created text to be moved around and processed independent of each other until the desired result is obtained. Processing may include the application of filters and masks to clean up, enhance, or otherwise alter the image. Size and quality DPI (dots per inch) may be altered to suit the image’s ultimate use in print, video, or for the internet, and metatags applied to declare copyright, describe the subject matter, or note the date and type of camera, etc. PSD documents are typically converted to other formats for use in printing, video or the internet. In the process of conversion, the layers are removed and the file is said to be "flattened."
