    http://www.xconomy.com/ national/ 2008/ 10/ 10/ playful-vs-preachy-sizing-up-tvs…

wwwade, television, science Wade Roush wrote: Crime shows generally turn me off, but for years I’ve enjoyed CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, because (as I’ve written before) the heroes are scientists. They catch crooks not by outgunning them, but by observing, hypothesizing, and testing.

    Dowsing for Journalists

    http://www.theness.com/ neurologicablog/ ?p=395

There is good and bad journalism out there. Recently the quality of science journalism has taken a hit, most likely due to decreasing revenues for major news outlets. But every now and then I run across a piece of journalism at a major outlet that is so horrific I have to comment.

Should blogging scientists engage pseudo-/anti-science cranks?

    http://clasticdetritus.com/ 2008/ 10/ 08/ should-blogging-scientists-engage-pseu…

I’ve been having an internal argument inside my head regarding whether or not practicing scientists should directly engage with psuedo- and/or anti-science cranks and zealots. I waffle on this because attempting to have a real (and ultimately constructive) discussion with these people typically ends in frustration.

I just noticed that An Encyclopedia of Claims, Frauds, and Hoaxes of the Occult and Supernatural by James Randi and Arthur Clarke is online for free. Lots of great reference material for when you need answers.

"Mock Up On Mu is cut from actual historical footage of Jack Parsons, L. Ron Hubbard and Marjorie Cameron creating the California that we know today with mind control, secret societies and science." -- Meredith Woerner, on a new movie that documents the zombie-like state of the state I live in, with stills on io9.com.

    Was September 08 Earthquake Month?

    http://suvratk.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 10/ was-september-08-earthquake-month.html

The September earthquake story has developed nicely with just the right amount of coincidences to cause excitement in the astrology community. Triumphant comments have been left on my earlier posts on earthquakes claiming "prediction" success.

Hey, whoever is searching the internet and coming across my site with the terms ‘essay on Zara by Mary Hooper’ - let me know? I seriously want to talk to your teacher… or help you out! In the meantime, I might blog if I can from Adelaide. Whilst travelling, I choose to take with me: Attack of [...]

Skeptical Movies? Three You Might Have Missed

    http://podblack.com/ ?p=961

Flicking back through my records, I noticed a list that was first started by Daniel Loxton on Facebook, recommending some good films for skeptics. He suggested: Leap of Faith -  with Steve Martin, loosely based on the Peter Popoff faith healing scam.

Evolution, Skepticism And Tony The Fish

    http://podblack.com/ ?p=960

So, I was having a chat with Digital Cuttlefish on Skype this evening, and they said - put this on your blog! Get Pharyngula to pay attention to it! That’s not going to happen. I can’t even get the Bad Astronomer to refer to my blog. But you read me, don’t you? I love you. And because [...]
