Editorial Reviews Product Description The Enron debacle, the demise of Arthur Andersen, questionable practices at Tyco, Qwest, WorldCom, and a seemingly endless list of others have pushed public regard for business and business leaders to new lows. The need for smart leaders with vision and integrity has never been greater.

I share your fear: public speaking for the first time

    http://speaking-life.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 10/ i-share-your-fear-public-speaking-f…

Public speaking comes easy to some but not so for others. I realised that I had some ability in public speaking only after making mistakes such as having up to 40+ pause fillers in my speech and also forgetting bits of my speech even as it was being coughed out in front of a live audience.

    School Chorus

Peanut is in the school chorus. I’m so happy that she joined. She’s had a fear of getting up in front of public to do anything lately, even at our church, where she’s been since she was in my tummy. When she was little she had no problem singing, talking or doing something she wasn’t supposed to be doing in front of the congregation.

Real Leadership in Obama - Biden

One of the things that irks me about this Presidential election is the appearance or lack of an ability to connect with voters by looking them in the eye. Maybe it is the way McCain presents his speeches from cue cards that just doesn’t seem to exude very much confidence as a leader.

    Late: Three inspirational communicators

    http://tpemurphy.com/ blog/ ?p=375

Back in August, Simon Wakeman tagged me for a meme on my top three inspirational communicators. Due to the vagaries of the new Wordpress dashboard (which is sadly appalling at tracking incoming links) I missed it. So, months late, I’m cheating and here are my thr-our.

Here are Three Keys to Help Them Stretch for our Call Center Trainers. Hope you enjoy the article by Guila “Everything must be made as simple as possible, but not one bit simpler.” — Albert Einstein Here’s something for you to try. (C’mon, I’ll wait for you to get out of your chair!) Stand up and stretch your right arm out behind you, as far as it will go.

[blush] I’m up there with friends and colleagues Trevor Cook (7th), Paull Young (3rd) and Laurel Papworth ("I have a silk worm and I’m not afraid to use it") who is 4th. We’re all part of a Top 50 list for B&T Magazine (no, Rude Boy, not "Bums and T*ts Monthly"). You can find the list on pages 35-38.

PowerPoint in ten minutes or less

Seth Godin recently posted his Nine steps to Powerpoint magic. Some of his "steps, not rules" are cheeky, like this one:"4. Pay by the word. Here's the deal: You should have to put $5 into the coffee fund for every single word on the wordiest slide in your deck. 400 words costs $2000.

[Public Speaking] Dealing with a Difficult Participant

    http://www.recognizedexpert.com/ expert/ f35/ dealing-difficult-participant-200/…

Over the course of my speaking career I've had to deal with difficult participants from time to time. Sometimes they're told by their supervisor to attend a workshop I was presenting (on dealing with difficult people) that they didn't want to attend and other times they show up drunk and obnoxious at a dinner speech.
