Japanese physicists win Nobel News Desk The Yomiuri Shimbun Two Japanese particle physicists were awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physics on Tuesday for discovering the origin of the broken symmetry that predicts the existence of at least three families of quarks in nature.

the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) brought the the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) online last week (september 10th, 2008). the fears of the LHC creating miniature black holes that could devour the earth seem to be unfounded.
