    http://www.blogher.com/ october-domestic-violence-awareness-month

October is famous as Breast Cancer Awareness Month when stores are awash in pink products that often contain breast cancer causing chemicals are sold to women in an effort to fund various activities to combat breast cancer. NEGATIVE STEREOTYPES OF THE IRISH

    http://contexts.org/ socimages/ 2008/ 10/ 06/ negative-stereotypes-of-the-irish/…

    NOTRE DAME’S FIGHTING IRISH MASCOT

    http://contexts.org/ socimages/ 2008/ 10/ 05/ notre-dames-fighting-irish-mascot/…

A couple of weeks ago I posted about American Indian sports mascots. An interesting comparison to spark discussion, and an example students often bring up, is the University of Notre Dame’s mascot. The name of the Notre Dame athletic teams is the Fighting Irish, and the official mascot is the leprechaun (image found at Wikipedia): Each year a student is chosen to be the leprechaun.

4 October, 2008 A 10-year-old girl sprayed in the face with a chemical Friday, Sept. 26, while at a local Islamic mosque was not the victim of a hate crime, police Chief Richard Biehl said.
