ram

RAM is an acronym which stands for Random Access Memory, which is the temporary storage area in computer systems which act as the work space for program instructions and data to be accessed directly by the computers CPU.

RAM (or memory) is considered volatile because it requires electricity to maintain the information that is stored on it. Simply put, as soon as the computer loses power, the RAM will be cleared and the contents will be lost.

There are plenty of different types of RAM on the market. Popular types of memory include DDR3 memory, DDR2 memory, DDR memory, SDRAM memory, RDRAM memory or Rambus and EDO memory. Each of the major types may have one or more sub types associated with them. It's important to install the proper type of RAM into a computer for proper functionality.
