ramadan
Ramadan is a Muslim religious observance which takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar year, a lunar calender year, in which Muslims around the world spend the daylight hours in a complete fast.
Ramadan is usually between 29 and 20 days each year, depending on the new moon being sighted. It is considered a time to purify the soul, a time for inner reflection, devotion to God and self-control. It is a time of increasing good deeds and avoidance of anything that displeases Allah. It is also considered a time to thank Allah for all the blessings He has bestowed, and make dua for those that are not so fortunate.
Ramadan, an old Arabic word meaning ‘scorching heat’, was the month in which the first verses of the holy Qur'an were revealed to the Prophet Mohammad. Ramadan ends with the Islamic holiday of Eid-al-Fitr, on the first day of the subsequent month.
