Real estate refers to land and any permanent structures or buildings attached to the location. Real estate is a legal phrase with laws, regulations and practices related to real estate varying from country to country. Residential real estate can refer to single dwelling homes, apartments, condominiums or terraced housing. Commercial real estate would include factories, offices, store fronts and shopping malls.

Real estate is often purchased with a bank loan or mortgage to hold the title of the property until the final payment is made. Real estate transactions may require a licensed real estate agent and a real estate attorney. Real estate laws and regulations change often and vary based upon the laws of the country the property is located in.

Real estate agents may assist in the sale or rental of properties or offer property advice. With the advent of the Internet, a lot of "for sale by owner" and "for rent by owner" transaction take place to eliminate the need for an extra person involved in the transaction. This has its advantages and disadvantages. Real estate rentals is a huge market online often directed to students looking for cheap apartments for long or short-term stay.

The real estate industry has developed new technologies, including search engines and other social networking and blogs to facilitate the way the real estate industry works and increase information available to consumers. Thousands of real estate blogs have emerged often supporting sophisticated web search engine sites with property listings, agency information and local neighborhood information. In an industry that changes often, where information is not just power but also money, the real estate blog can be a powerful destination.
