A real estate agent is a third party who acts as a liaison between the seller of a property and any potential buyers. He or she is there to also assist the seller or purchaser with all the necessary legal documentation involved in selling or purchasing a house.

A real estate agent must also be willing to put the time and effort into the marketing of a property for their client to get the highest possible offer for the sale.

A real estate agent who is assisting in the sale of a property will charge a fee, usually around 6% of the final selling price. Normally the selling agent will have to pay out close to half of their commission to the purchasing agent.
