Real Steel is an upcoming action science-fiction film based on a Richard Matheson's 1956 short story Steel. Set in the near future, the movie is starring Hugh Jackman, as ex-boxer Charlie Keaton, who loses the opportunity to earn a title as the more spectacular robot matches replace traditional matches between humans. Trying to make ends meet in an industry dominated by 8-foot tall, 2000 pound robots, Charlie is pushed to become a small time promoter. With the help of his son, he puts together a robot that he trains vigorously to compete in an upcoming championship.

While little information is available at this point, based on the Reel Steel trailer, we can conclude that one of the core themes of the film is human-robot interaction and the various moral aspects of it. Packed with futuristic, epic fighting scenes between robots, as well as emotionally charged moments centered on father-son relationships, this new film attempts to be larger than life and appeal to both younger and more mature audiences. Moreover, the film will be released both in conventional theaters as well as iMax theaters for a more dramatic visual experience.

Real Steel is directed by Shawn Levy, who has also worked on Night At The Museum, Date Night, The Pink Panther and Cheaper By The Dozen. This original screenplay had been written as early as 2005, when Dreamworks purchased it from writer Dan Gilroy for $850,000. According to inside voices, the approximate budget for this film is $80 million. Since Shawn Levy took on the project, several modifications have been brought to the screenplay - originally set to follow Matheson's dystopian, cold and unfeeling universe, yet Levi chose to use a more traditional American setting that he considered would provide a better frame for the father-son story, as well as seeming more familiar to the audience.

While the film was initially planned for release in mid November, it has been moved to October 7, as a strategic marketing move to avoid competition with the fantasy film The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Real Steel so far promises to be an entertaining and grand action-filled story that will surely fill cinemas this fall.
