Recreation, simply put, is physical activity. It could be in the name of fun, or with an eye toward health, but most people consider recreation to be a mix of the two.

Common types of recreation include skiing, hiking, cycling, and other outdoor sports. However, recreation can be as simple as playing in the park or walking the dog. Recreation usually takes place outdoors, and is a mostly casual activity undertaken for pure enjoyment.

In recent years, an uptick in sedentary lifestyles has resulted in decreased recreation. Nonetheless, science and medicine generally agree that getting outside and moving around for a few minutes a day is greatly beneficial to a person's health and happiness.

The blogosphere has plenty of information on recreation, from personal accounts of exercise exploits to recreation guides for certain areas and sports. You can even find the latest news on popular parks and wilderness areas.
