A residential area is predominately made up of homes or apartment buildings, as opposed to commercial or industrial buildings.

These areas are generally the neighborhoods where people live and commute from for work, etc.

A continually growing trend in these areas is for residential green building. "Green" building for homes involves designing and renovating residential units to use resources like water and electricity more efficiently. It generally involves designing or upgrading the home to operate more as an integrated "system."

DIY homeowners in residential areas, that made the decision to go "green", are installing solar and wind power systems allowing them sustainable energy. They also may make other improvements to areas like plumbing and electrical within the home.

You'll find bloggers talking about "green" residential at sites like Simple Green Cleaning and Affordable Green Energy.
