resveratrol

Resveratrol is a compound found in red wine, grapes, Japanese knotweed and other plants. Some years ago, the TV show "60 Minutes" did a segment on a research study known as The French Paradox Study which suggested that a compound in red wine called resveratrol may have anti-aging and disease fighting properties. Since then research on this substance has intensified.

Some of the research has been promising, but more study is needed. Bloggers are talking about resveratrol on sites like It Takes Work and Stormhoek.

Despite the fact that the full story of resveratrol is not complete, sales of resveratrol supplements are growing. With this growth has come some overly aggressive marketing including unsubstantiated health claims, bogus free offer schemes and other marketing problems.

Research is being conducted by commercial companies such as Glaxo and by public research organizations such as The National Institutes of Health (NIH).
