My latest article for Service Provider Views was published yesterday on TMCnet. The focus this time was on some variations of the platform play as a path that service providers can take in the Web 2.0 world. In particular, I touch briefly on Ifbyphone, Ribbit and Jajah.

This weekend, I put over 1000 miles on my van driving up to Stockton to pick up the Musicmaker from her first year of college. I made it a little bit of a road trip and took a more scenic route going up to try and bag a few more counties that I hadn't cached in before.

Good news: InfoWorld honored Ribbit this morning by choosing us as one of the Hottest Tech Startups of 2008: part of an elite list highlighting “newbies whose technologies could make a huge difference to business IT.” This recognition is especially meaningful to us given InfoWorld’s selection criteria.

Tuesday’s NewTech Meetup (a much-acclaimed monthly event in the Bay Area tech community, featuring full-house events showcasing demos of hot new technologies) was a great success for Ribbit. We took to the stage as the the final presenter, and liked how NewTech honcho Myles Wessleder introduced us

Sprout, the premier platform for easily creating, publishing and managing rich media Web content, has closed a $5 million Series B financing led by Polaris Venture Partners. Mike Hirshland, general partner at Polaris, has joined Sprout's board of directors.

Once again it is time for SF New Tech, a ServePath sponsored meetup in San Francisco. The theme of this event is “Wine, Women and a Whole Lot More.” As always, the event is at Mighty (119 Utah Street @ 15th) from 6:30pm to 11:00 pm PT. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
