rock
Rock generally refers to the 1960s form of music (Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, etc.) which grew out of the original Rock & Roll of the 1950s, first originated by artists like Chuck Berry, and then popularized by people like Elvis Presley.
Since the sixties, it has grown and morphed into various sub-genres such as Punk. There are, of course, Rock purists who only prefer the original Classic Rock genre, and other sixties and seventies hybrids like psychedelic or acid-rock.
Rock is such a popular tag because so many bands fall into the category, even if only slightly. However, the quintessential rock band includes a singer, guitarist, bass player, and drummer. Bloggers may tag posts Rock for a variety of reasons including reviewing an album, writing about a concert they went to, comparing the merits of a range of bands, or dishing on the latest news on their favorite artists.
