An RPG is a role playing game where players create a character based on attributes and skills found in real life and fantasy. Dungeons And Dragons was the first popular pen and paper RPG in which players used their imaginations throughout the game. Today’s RPG’s like World Of Warcraft are extremely sophisticated online video games that take care of all of the statistical calculations for skills and combat.

Some players become completely consumed playing out a role how they might in real life or, as someone completely different, letting their alter ego come to the surface. Knights Of The Old Republic was a ground breaking RPG that allowed characters to play on the light side or dark side of the force in the Star Wars universe and choices affected the outcome of the story.

Traditionally RPG’s have been played on the PC, but later started porting over to video gaming consoles for wider availability. If you don’t have a PC that can keep up with the heavy system requirements of today’s games you can buy a cheap Playstation 3 and have games right on your living room big screen.
