ruby
Ruby is a dynamic language that first appeared in 1995. It was made popular by Dave Thomas of Pragmatic Programmer fame and then more so by Ruby on Rails. Because of its popularity Ruby has been ported to run under both the Java JDK as JRuby and the .NET runtime as IronRuby.
There is a large and vocal Ruby community that is comprised of a wide range of talents. From interface designers, .net converts, people preaching best practices, those focused on rails and just something different you can find a wide range of points of view.
Like PHP there is wide library support for Ruby with the most common form of packaging being gems. Two sources of libraries are rubyforge and rubygems.
