The term rugby is used primarily to refer to rugby football, which is a version of football developed in the 19th century by the Rugby School of England. In 1895, rugby branched out into two distinctive sports known as rugby league and rugby union. However, a comparison between the two is possible today, thanks to their shared origins and similarities.

Rugby betting is very popular, especially in England, Australia and the United States. Today, rugby is considered a professional sport, with the main difference between the two codes being that rugby league has a system of limited tackles whereas rugby union does not.
