The road to failure is strewn with the remains of unfulfilled New Year's Resolutions. And the number one failed New Year's Resolution? Running.

Runners are a rare breed, and to avoid being one of those New Year statistics, it's important to understand what it means to be a runner and what it takes to do it consistently and correctly.

The definition of running is that both feet are off the ground at the same time for short periods. If this is not happening, you ain't running. You is walking. When walking, one foot is always in contact with the ground. So, if you want to be a runner, make sure you are running.

The continual rise and fall of body weight that occurs during running expends energy opposing gravity and absorbing shock during take-off and landing. Running uses a lot more energy than walking does to travel the same distance.

Running is both a competition and a type of training for sports that have running or endurance components (soccer, basketball, wrestling, etc.).

The highest human foot speed ever recorded is 48 km/h (29.8 mph), seen during a 100 meter sprint by Usain Bolt. Bloggers speaking about runners can be found at sites like runnersblog and arunnersblog.
