A keyword search on Google for "free sample" offers over 9 million websites. 9 million. And that's just on the internet. Retailers have practiced free sampling for hundreds (if not thousands) of years, allowing people to try before they buy. It is proven to be popular and worthwhile to offer a free sample for many products like food and services. So why is the internet offering so many free samples when it isn't so easy to test foods or try on clothes?

The internet is the main place for free information sampling. What better venue to ignite interest in a product or service than free information on the internet? Websites and blogs offer no-cost workshops, videos, .pdf files, or chapters from a book. Increasingly and most importantly, if you are going to give out free sample information, it's got to be good. If it isn't quickly accessible and relevant, people will move on. Consumers won't spend the time to look up every bit of information available — there is simply too much out there (9 million entries, anyone?).

Bloggers speaking about samples can be found at sites like freesamplesblog and free-product-samples.
