Sam's Club is the creation of Sam Walton, founder of discount retail store Walmart.

In 1983, Sam Walton opened up his first Sam's Club, a warehouse, wholesale store which required membership to join, in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Since then, hundreds of stores have opened up across America. The stores themselves are very large in size, usually ranging in size from 70,000 – 190,000 square feet.

One difference between Sam's Club and Costco is that a consumer can go inside the former and buy any product, provided that they pay a 10% surcharge on all products. Costco once had this program, but their buyers must now be members to go inside and make a purchase.
