Shawn Johnson came into the spotlight early in the 2008 Summer Olympics, helping lead the Americans to a successful run in gymnastics in Beijing.
Johnson, born in 1992 in Des Moines, Iowa, first began competing internationally at the age of 13 where she placed in the Top 10 in three events as a junior at the US Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. Shawn quickly gained ground on the rest of the competition in the United States, winning multiple gold medals as a member of the junior and senior USA teams in the balance beam, floor exercise, and all-around competitions.
At the Summer Olympics, Shawn Johnson, won four medals, including a gold medal on the balance beam and three silver medals, one each in floor exercise, the all-around, and in team competition.
