Here is a side scan image of what appears to me as a cannon although i cant be certain until its positively identified. This is located next to where two bronze cannons and lots of artifacts were found years before. It is believed that this is the wreck of the "La Viette". What do you guys think? They used a completely different datum than we use today. Bernard Romans map of 1775 is the same way... he has the latitude for Indian River inlet at 27 20" but today its around 27 30". You are right on in your thinking of a storm surge carring a ship over the dunes..... In the Gulf, There are higher storm surges because the water has no place to go but its a little different on the east coast.
