Sir Mix-A-Lot is a rapper from Seattle, best known for the 1992 song "Baby Got Back", his tribute to the female posterior, and one of that year's biggest selling singles.

Sir Mix-A-Lot got his start on the streets of Seattle performing at house-parties and making do-it-yourself home recordings which were mainly sold at independent record stores in Seattle's inner city. When local DJ Nasty Nes began playing Mix-A-Lot raps like "Square Dance Rap" on his radio show, this soon drew the attention of another promoter, Ed Locke, who released the first Sir Mix-A-Lot album Swass on the homespun label Nastymix. The record became a surprise hit, earning a gold record.

After releasing Seminar, a second album for Nastymix that was also a hit, Mix-A-Lot left the label for a contract with Def American, the Warner Brothers distributed label founded by producer Rick Rubin. That partnership produced one mega-selling album, Mack Daddy, with featured "Baby Got Back," the single that was Sir Mix-A-Lot's biggest hit, but that would also prove to be his last.

Today, Sir Mix-A-Lot continues to make records on his own and produce music for other artists. His fanbase also remains as devoted as ever, inspiring a number of fansites and blogs.
