sites
The word sites is thrown around quite a bit, especially in the last decade, however the root of the word has always referred to a location in some kind of way. Before the age of the Internet, sites would refer to geographical locations, such as the exact position of a town or a building. However as digital assets became more and more recognized as actual valuable commodities, sites more commonly referred to locations that are situated on the Internet.
Any location that is on the Internet has an address, such as www.something.com. This is referred to as a Web address and when an individual pulls up a Web address to view it's contents, that is referred to as a site, and more specifically, a Web site. Web sites have dominated the usage of the term and now when a site is being referred to in everyday casual language, it is typically assumed that reference is not being made to a geographical location, such as a town or a building. The vehicle that facilitates sites to exist involves web hosting. Web hosting is the service that is utilized in order for a site to even exist. Without Web hosting, a site is basically non-existent.
Shopping for Web hosting is similar to shopping for a car. Both are vehicles that facilitate travel from one point to another. In a car, one can easily move from one location to another. Similarly, with a Web hosting plan one can publish one site or another, or multiple sites simultaneously, as the hosting plan serves as the vehicle for the information that is being published to reach its intended audience. The intended audience can be as broad or as narrow as anyone could define, and it can also be based on many factors, such as their geographical location, the income level or their tastes or hobbies or occupation, just to name a few.
