Skateboards and skateboarding have been around for decades. Some say they originated in the 1930's or 1940's with the rise of soapbox racers. Others say they were first discovered when kids would nail a piece of wood to a roller skate. Although there is some ambiguity about when skateboards actually "cut their teeth," their popularity is without debate.

When you first get on a skateboard, your belly may feel like it is full of vomiting butterflies. And that's normal. There is some risk involved with skateboarding, no doubt. You may wreck a few times and it may look like someone spanked your face with a hammer. However, once you get the hang of it, you will be doing Ollies (invented by Alan "Ollie" Gelfand) and taking corners so sharply that you almost rear-end yourself.

Even if you are no good at sports, that makes no difference when it comes to skateboarding. Skateboarding is a whole different game. So, even if you were one of those people who were so poorly coordinated at sports that the coach put you in charge of collecting the jock straps after the games instead, never fear. You can still skate.
