slashdot
Slashdot is a technology news site featuring user submitted news stories with a focus on technology and science news. The website was founded in 1997 by Rob Malda who is known as Commander Taco on the site.
Slashdot users submit summaries of news stories with links to the original story which are then selected by editors for publication on the site. The site is largely self-regulated with randomly assigned moderators who rate user comments and administrators who watch over the site.
The huge popularity of the website can lead to the so called Slashdot effect which describes the crashing or slowdown of a website or server by users that are visiting the site from the Slashdot news post.
You'll find bloggers talking about Slashdot at sites like GizmoWhiz and Slashdot Review.
