In this week's installment of mediabistro.com's "Pitching an Agent," M. David Hornbuckle visits the Linda Chester Agency, where Alexandra Machinist (right) is actively looking for new authors, with "a particular affinity for historical fiction, plot-driven literary fiction, women's fiction that ...

    The Diamond of Darkhold

    http://paraklesis.com/ childrens_publishing_news/ 2008/ 09/ 29/ the-diamond-of-d…

Today begins the Kidz Book Buzz blog tour for the Diamond of Darkhold, by Jeanne DuPrau.  Diamond is the fourth book in the Ember series, and while The City of Ember remains my favorite in the series, Diamond runs a close second. Doon and Lina are back together for a grand adventure in The Diamond of Darkhold, and I so enjoy keeping company with them.

    Dear Author

    http://blog.willentrekin.com/ 2008/ 09/ 08/ dear-author/

Late at night, I wonder if she ever really had feelings for me. That’s what’s been most difficult: not her leaving, but rather wondering if she was honest. What’s most difficult is . . . did she really look at me, try to get to know me? Was she open to it?

The end of the Slush Pile?

    http://www.themousehunter.com/ blog/ ?p=529

The end of the Slush Pile? by Alex on September 4th, 2008 There’s an interesting article over on the Guardian about publishers’ slush piles. I never had to go through the process of sending my manuscript to publishers and agents - and that’s not me stating my brilliance, more an admission of guilt.

Aida Edemariam on sifting through the publishing industry's slus... guardian.co.uk Technology Wed, 09/03/2008 - 18:12 I will not be the only person who reacted with amusement to the news that HarperCollins has just launched a website that encourages would-be authors to upload sample chapters, which will then be judged not by professional editors, but by readers.

    inside authonomy

    http://thedigitalist.net/ ?p=215

When HarperCollins launched their slush pile site, Authonomy, in beta, I signed up and received an invitation. I wanted to have the full and genuine authonomy (small ‘a’) experience, so I dug out of my old files the beginnings of a sf novel (login probably required) that I’d been writing at varsity (you know, instead of sleeping and stuff) and uploaded it.

Jimmy’s Stars by Mary Ann Rodman ~ Day Three

    http://paraklesis.com/ childrens_publishing_news/ ?p=239

Well, this is the end of the Jimmy’s Stars tour. It’s been a blast. I have nothing new to add to the mix today. I’ve been reading all the blog posts instead of coming up with my own. So I’ll send you to my three favorite posts today: First go to Becky’s Book Reviews and start the playlist.

    The World of Slush

    http://haydensferryreview.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 07/ world-of-slush.html

In response to some recent emails from writers and this article on Luna Park's website, it seemed apropos to put my two cents into the whole Slush Pile Discussion. Here are a few things I'd like HFR's submitters to know... WE LOVE THE SLUSH PILE. HONEST.

The Hidden Class of Writer - Authors With Day Jobs

    http://anchoredauthors.com/ 2008/ 07/ 01/ the-hidden-class-of-writer-authors-wit…

Don’s comment, yesterday, is a perfect example of the blind spot that exists in the global publishing industry. There is a persistent and frustrating misperception that any writer with a published novel or two is raking in the cash, and therefore writing full time.
