social software
Will Wright once said, “It turns out that we don’t use computers to enhance our math skills – we use them to expand our people skills.” Truer words have never been spoken. Computers have gone from crunching numbers and creating statistical cross sections to being the voice and mind of the people in cyberspace with the advent of social software.
Social software like Twitter, MySpace, and social bookmarking sites like Del.icio.us are just a few of the many popular applications for person-to-person communication. Social software allows users to interact and share anything and it can increase website traffic to a blog when people share favorite sites with others.
Internet marketing has not turned a blind eye to the increasing popularity of social software and how it drives users to certain websites. Marketing has pervaded every aspect of social software as the race is on to “get the word out” about particular services, widgets, or trinkets.
Communication with social software can be written, as with Instant Messenger or blogs, but it’s increasingly becoming video driven. YouTube is the most notable example of video driven social software. Information can be shared through video clips, and these video clips are even responded to by others with their own video clips.
