Social media is a type of media that is based on online interaction and conversation. The term is very broad and associated with different kinds of online services and programs.

Some of the most known include Wikipedia, Facebook and YouTube videos. Other examples include blogs, social bookmarking sites like Delicious or game sharing sites such as Kongregate. The content itself comes in many forms as well from text and videos to images and interactive contents.

All those websites, services and programs have in common is that they propel conversation and interaction between its users, usually in the form of comments, ratings and other forms of voicing an opinion or adding content.

You'll find bloggers talking about social media at sites like Mashable and Nick Jameson.
