Special is a word that has many meanings; it can mean unique, extraordinary or can refer to a deal or sale. It is derived from the Latin word 'specialis' which comes from the root 'species'.Under special circumstances, the word special can mean a certain vocation such as a 'doctor's specialty'.

Special needs refers to individuals with mental or physical disabilities. McDonald's, the most successful fast food restaurant chain in the world, once trademarked the sauce in their Big Mac as "special sauce". When something is on sale, its said to be on special. For example, when ordering at a restaurant, you can ask what's on special and usually find discounted meals. The list goes on and on...special friends, feeling special, special interests groups. Special is a special word indeed.
