When it comes to sugar, most of us immediately think of Sweets, and for good reason. Sugar is the active ingredient in most of the things we think of as "sweet," from the frosting on your cake to the coating on your candy. Even deserts we tend to think of as dairy products like ice cream often contain as much — if not more — sugar as they do milk and butter.

However, while sugar is one of life's more delectable pleasures, too much of it is not always not a good thing. Like most sweet indulgences, when sugar is consumed in excess there can be consequences to your health.

Besides the fact that too much of a "sweet tooth" can lead to tooth decay, excessive sugar consumption can lead to more serious health problems like obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

So the next time you reach for that sugar pop or twinkie, remember that while a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down, too much sugar might also lead to a lot more of that medicine. You'll find bloggers talking about sugar at sites like The Barefoot Kitchen and SugarStacks.com.
