T-shirts are one of the largest creative outlets for anything related to pop culture. Almost every internet meme, celebrity stunt/accident, or newsworthy event have t-shirts designed for them and sold online. Quite often, the t-shirts are very inexpensive and are only worn a couple times or until the happening is no longer trendy. This is quite the opposite of the retail store t-shirts and mass-produced designs that don't get as much love from the blogosphere. 

Doing a search on a large community-driven t-shirts site will show all the current and past trends. For example, in the time leading up to the 2009 elections, t-shirts featuring Barack Obama and other politicians were all the rage. Some designs like those made by Shepard Fairey were some of the most well known images of the election and remained a pop culture icon.
