tacos

Tag details

A traditional Mexican dish consisting of a corn tortilla wrapped around meat. The name is sometimes mistakenly given to an Americanized dish consisting of a hard shell to which meat, lettuce, salsa, cream and cheese are added. Tacos are a staple of Mexican cuisine and are usually eaten for lunch or dinner.
Taco meat ranges from beef to pork, roasted or marinated, and is usually served with lime and salsa on the side. Marinated pork is done so that it acquires a deep orange color and the meat is served with pineapple (tacos al Pastor).
In their most original way, tacos are served as meat with warm tortillas on the side; that way they are prepared by the consumer on the spot. Common accompaniments to tacos are rice or beans.
