Tanzania is the 31st largest country in the world. It is mountainous in the northeast, where Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, is situated, and to the northwest lives the Great Lakes of Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika, known for its unique species of fish.
Centrally located in Tanzania lies a large plateau, with plains and land suitable for cultivation. Hot and humid, the eastern shore hosts the island of Zanzibar not far off the coast.
The southwest region of Tanzania, Rukwa, is one the country's many tourist destinations. It houses the Kalambo water falls which draws tourists from all over the world. With its extensive wildlife and vast array of landscapes, Tanzania hosts a variety of safari holidays for tourists every year.
