tanzanite
Tanzanite is a relatively new gemstone, discovered in the hills of Tanzania as recently as 1967, it is a variety of the mineral Zoisite and is blue / purple in color. Straight after the stone has been mined its colour is a reddish brown so Tanzanite must be subjected to heat treatment up to a temperature of 600 degrees Centigrade in order to bring out the stones blue violet distinctive color. Although blue violet is the stone's color, in certain light and if the stone is turned a certain way the color changes briefly to a deep burgundy color.
Due to the fact that the gemstone is so rare finding blogs on Tanzanite can be difficult. However, Minerals.net offers a website which also contains a blog about daily findings in the world of gemstones.
