Believe it or not, tarot cards used to be used for the simple playing of games. The fact is, in parts of Europe this is still the central purpose of tarot cards. It wasn't until the 18th century that the Tarot began to be used for purposes of divination.

There are thus many perceptions and opinions about tarot cards. Some look upon them as cultish, others see them as a fun and interesting way to pass time, and still others take them very seriously and believe that they are able to help them figure out or bring them into alignment with their spiritual path.

The Tarot is a set of 78 cards. It contains 21 trump cards and one Fool, with 4 suits of 14 cards each-- 10 pip and 4 face cards. Although tarot cards are often read by a fortune teller, a person can go buy a deck and learn to read tarot cards on their own by following the instructions included with the pack of cards.
