This week brought yet another death after tasering of an unarmed person. On August 10th, Kiethedric Hines, 31, of Rockford Illinois died after being tasered by police. His death is the 2nd death after tasering in the City of Rockford in less that two months* and that has some people (finally) questioning the city’s use of tasers.

It just occurred to me that all the news in the last year or so about taser abuse - and taser deaths, especially - probably has people of all sorts a bit more fearful of police in general. Some countries like that sort of thing.

Home office figures released today show Taser use is up as the police trials continue, which is to be expected as they get used to using them (stats here). The third quarter statistics from a 12-month trial, which extended the use of Tasers to specially trained units in the fight against crime, reveal the devices were used 159 times and discharged 26 times in the last three months.
