California Pizza Kitchen, KLCC August 6th, 2008 For reasons that I don’t know of, I was the only blogger who was invited by a PR agency (on behalf of California Pizza Kitchen) to attend a food tasting solely for the medias. Yes, you read it alright, the only blogger among a pool of KL media, magazine writers, journalists and photographers.

I am going to revisit cooking food in the earth this week. We will dig a pit at the hotel and roast the salmon in the ground. The white cherry tomatoes came from my garden this week. We had a micro burst at the house yesterday that took out a huge chunk of a tree in our back yard.

It was good to have a break from work but it is time to get going again. I have a lot of questions about where I will be in the future. All I know is that I need a change. I am looking to do my own place, another hotel or back to working for independents.

There will be many times you’re in a new place with unfamiliar sounds, people and menus. In fact, if this sounds odd to you…then I really do suggest you branch out and explore your city some more. Some places will veer in the direction of ‘tourist’.

I was at a wonderful event the other night, and I really want to tell you about it but before I do, I want to clarify, for any new readers, that I am not one to write about something because I’ve gotten a freebie. I take great care to ensure that everything I recommend here is of quality and value.

I have been scaling back some of the techniques to see if the menus will sell better. I am relizing that the people that come in for it are looking for the freeky shit. I am going to experiment a little more with some flavor combinations and textures. I am using some rose pedals that I picked and some bok choy from our garden this week.

We are getting ready for Mother's day this week. We are booked except for a few late spots. We plan on doing around 1000. The new menu is going good. The flavors are were I want them but we are messing around with some presentations and ratios. I have not sou-vide fruit so I am interested in the flavors I can get.
