tease

To tease is to try to put something over on somebody or take jabs at them playfully. Of course there can be mean and rude teasing, and there can be innocent teasing.

For those that have the sense of humor of a rock, teasing isn't a very good idea. Whether or not it is just in fun, the object of your teasings may just end up getting angry at you. Be aware that from one nationality or culture to the next your teasing may not be interpreted the same!

Teasing is often done with little children. If it is known that the teasing is harmless and the child takes well to it, it may be okay. But if the teasing is done mercilessly, or it is unwelcome teasing can be damaging to a child's self-esteem.

Tread carefully when it comes to being a tease. Bloggers speaking about teasing can be found at sites like school bullying and brainteasersusa.
