technical analysis
Technical Analysis is the study of price action of the market itself rather than the economic factors that contribute to it. Technical analysts believe that human behavior is the principle driver behind change in financial markets and that this behavior produces trends and repeating patterns that are predictive to the trained eye.
The first recorded history of a trader using technical analysis was Sokyo Honma, a rice trader in eighteenth century Japan. Charles Dow is the recognized father of modern technical analysis based on a series of editorials he wrote for The Wall street Journal between 1897 and 1902.
The most authoritative text on technical analysis is Technical Analysis of Stock Trends(1948) by Robert Edwards and John Magee. The most comprehensive text is Technical Analysis
(2007) by Charles Kirkpatrick and Julie Dahlquist. The premiere organization dedicated to the advancement of technical analysis and credentialing of practitioners is the Market Technicians Association (MTA.org).
