Telephony is the technology that encompasses voice based telecommunications services and equipment. Telephony has evolved through several stages of advancement starting off as analog and later moving to a fully digital signal. Wireless communications has taken telephony to a new level with cell phones that include both voice and internet capabilities with mobile web access.

Technological advancements in IP telephony has allowed companies huge cost savings in their total telecommunications services replacing expensive PBX phone systems with a hosted IP PBX solution. A hosted IP PBX uses internet protocol to greatly reduce upfront costs while providing much greater scalability to each individual business.
